High Point's Award-Winning Neighborhood Plan is
Attracting National Media Attention
The High Point neighborhood is garnering some much-deserved national praise for its progressive approach to re-building an urban community. In early 2006, PBS will debut "Edens Lost & Found," a documentary profiling redevelopment activities in Seattle, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Philadelphia.
Created to inspire citizens across the country to recapture and restore their neighborhoods, the program is being produced by award-winning Wiland-Bell Productions, and will examine how smart growth alternatives can overcome suburban sprawl.
Held up as an exemplary model for new urban communities, High Point is highlighted because of the Seattle Housing's use of green technologies to preserve resources, optimize density, and minimize environmental impact. The producers of the documentary visited High Point recently to learn more about its Built Green and Breathe-Easy homes, the natural drainage system, and efforts to preserve and recycle trees.
Edens Lost & Found will be featured at an upcoming session of the Urban Sustainability Forum, an on-going series of public dialogues. The session will deal with restoration of urban ecosystems.
