As you walk through High Point, be sure to stop by Viewpoint Park. Built around a football-sized pond that is part of the natural drainage system, the park includes an outlook to enjoy the exceptional Elliott Bay and downtown Seattle views as well as a walking and jogging trail and a playground for neighborhood children. To circulate the water, the pond features a man-made stream that flows back down into the pond for a pleasant, natural setting and sound. At any given time, bald eagles, Canadian geese and blue herons have all been seen enjoying the waters of the pond.
Pocket parks are laced throughout the community, many shaded by the same trees that were planted decades ago. An additional 2,600 trees are also being planted, increasing the inviting atmosphere of the neighborhood.
"It's not unusual to stop by High Point on a sunny day and find the playground filled with kids or the sidewalks bustling with activity as residents walk their dogs or stop to chat with neighbors. It's very rewarding to see the camaraderie that has developed here," says Phillips.
Next year, High Point will unveil its Commons Park. The four-acre park will be a beautiful and active heart of the community with large open green spaces, public art and a charming amphitheater mound for community gatherings and entertainment.
All parks and open spaces are being maintained through a "green-friendly" program. This program includes limited use of pesticides and herbicides and the use of energy saving lawn equipment.
