Take a walking tour with environmental planners from Seattle Public Utilities, who helped integrate an extensive natural drainage system throughout this vibrant new community. Learn how street-side gardens help protect Longfellow Creek and how SPU is using similar natural drainage systems throughout the City to improve the health of our urban creeks and surrounding waters.

ENERGY STAR Lighting for the Home. Presented by Seattle Lighting
Can making a difference in the environment be as simple as choosing the right light bulb or fixture? Yes! In fact, if every household in the U.S. replaced one light bulb with an ENERGY STAR qualified compact fluorescent light bulb (CFL), it would prevent enough pollution to equal removing one million cars from the road. You'll also learn why choosing state of the art ENERGY STAR fixtures will improve the quality and performance of your lighting system, as well as local utility incentive programs.

Milenko Matonovic of Pomegranate Center will lead an energetic workshop demonstrating his philosophy of integrating community concerns into the design process to inform the way a community responds to art. The Pomegranate Center designed numerous art projects throughout High Point, including within the neighborhood's Market Garden, engaging the community as a whole in the process.

High Point has the country's largest collection of Breathe Easy Homes - homes designed to address the growing incidence of asthma among children. Thirty-five Breathe Easy homes in the neighborhood were made available for rent to low-income families with children who have asthma. These homes are designed and built with special features to improve overall indoor air quality and reduce indoor air pollutants. Learn more about this forward-thinking program from the doctors and health professionals involved in helping design the homes and chart the progress of the children living there.
